Introducing Golabs
Last updated: Apr 10, 2017
Introduction
Golang is a beautiful language. It can be used for a variety of different purposes ranging from creating modern webapps to creating open source packages that will serve a bigger purpose.
Golangs standard library comes with a wide range of packages that fulfill almost all your needs. In addition to this Golang has a very vibrant community made up of “Gophers” who are cranking out packages that cater to multiple bells and whistles that a modern day software requires.
A developer starting out in Go from a different language (also called a “Baby Gopher” ) does find it difficult initially to get started. Once the developer learns the ropes of the language, he/she will find that the best practices/software development disciplines and tricks that were second nature to them in their first language are not so obvious in Go. Some examples of that are Test Driven Development, Performance monitoring and Tuning, CI/CD etc.
Golabs is a initiative that aims to familiarize such a developer with the nuances of Go.This will comprise a series of blog posts outlining how to adopt well known web development disciplines and practices while developing in Go. Along with the outline there will be the corresponding code that will be checked to a Github repository as a recipe for customization and adoption.
Prerequisites
Anyone following this series needs to have a working Golang Environment on their machine. The content does assume that the audience is comprised of developers familiar with basic concepts of Golang.
Do let me know if there is particular topic that you would want me to cover in the comments sections.
Hope we have fun!
